The Gratitude Challenge – Day 3 & 4

by The CEO on October 21, 2009

Playing catch-up here…because I suck at this challenge already!

Yesterday’s Day 3 Challenge was: Write about something you are grateful for today. Ok, so I know that there are many things that I am grateful for in my life, but for some reason, I just could not think of anything yesterday. Of course, I was grateful for the typical stuff (which I truly am grateful for, by the way) like my family, and the fact that there was food on my table (and the fact that we ordered out last night and I didn’t have to cook it!) Of course there were many material things that I was grateful for yesterday–most particular, this new skincare line I picked up at The Body Shop a few days ago and how it’s already fighting the war against the zits on my face pretty damn well.

But I was trying to find something “big” to be grateful for yesterday. And the fact of the matter is, it’s the small stuff that matters most. And usually those small things are what we take for granted too often.

Like the fact that my kids actually played, by themselves, with their toys, for over an hour yesterday morning. Or the fact that my hubby was, and always is, totally okay with my last minute “awe-heck-I-don’t-feel-like-cooking-let’s-order-a-pie-for-dinner” decision. And it’s okay to admit that little materialistic things like that new skincare set makes me happy. For the first time in weeks I am able to look into the mirror and not automatically be drawn to the ugly red zits taking over my face.

Today’s Day 4 challenge is: Give thanks for something negative in your life. Recently, my hubby & I have been subjected to some unwanted turmoil. In the almost 6 1/2 years that we’ve been married, I can recall arguing with him a handful of times, 3 of which were in the last 6 months. I am thankful for these arguments because through them, our respect and trust for one another has deepened, and so has our love. We have decided, together, what is truly important in our lives and we’ve made decisions together on how to stay on the path towards happiness. These hard times have made our marriage much stronger.

You are cracking me up because I was sitting here trying to do two days at once also! (Think I'll go and do it now so maybe I won't be so far behind!)

I am glad to read other blogs who are participating in the Gratitude Challenge. I can tell you, I haven't really been that good with doing one challenge a day. I try to, but it doesn't always happen. So my challenge, may be longer than 21 days. It is not always easy.
