If I see one more person on Facebook join the group “Boycott MTVs Jersey Shore cuz REAL Jersey isn’t guido!!,” I just may throw a can of AquaNet at their head.
Sure, MTV could have done a better job choosing a name for this new “reality” show–of course it does take place at the Jersey Shore–but it’s NOT about these stereotypical Italians representing the lives of those that actually reside here 365 days a year. It’s purely a Real World-type show following the randomness of a bunch of bennies (who by the way knew exactly what sort of show they were going to be on when they auditioned for it!) on a summer vacay at the Shore.
Unless you walk/talk/act/dress/fake-n-bake/pump your fists/get-yourself-thrown-in-jail-on-the-weekend like these self-named “crazy guidos” do, then why would you take such offense to a silly reality show that’s meant to purely amuse those of us who laugh at these people anyway?? Yes, it’s embarrassing that NJ has suffered plenty through “reality” TV lately, but watch one episode (or the trailer below) and I am sure you’ll agree that it’s not about us living at the shore at all.
I’m a real housewife living in NJ. Are my panties in a bunch over Bravo’s Real Housewives of NJ, a series that follows five of the most affluent “Jersey Girls” as they live lavish lifestyles and deal with all the drama that money can buy? They don’t represent me one bit. Sure, I don’t watch it, and I roll my eyes when I see these “Real” housewives spread all over the gossip magazines I read, but then I turn the page ’cause I believe that one single “reality” show does not have the power to convince the rest of America that ALL NJ housewives are just like the ones on that show.
The people that these shows make fun of don’t realize that they are even the punchline of the joke. So, if they are happy and enjoy providing us with mindless entertainment, can’t we just go with it instead of causing such a fuss? What’s more is that this “fuss” is giving them what they want–exposure.
I’ll be the first to admit that these shows are embarrassing for us hard-working, family-raising, beach-loving New Jersians, but the truth hurts. NJ has it’s share of “crazy guido’s” & “real” housewives but since I am not one of them, I am going to go about my day and turn on MTV at 10pm tonight to get a great laugh at the ones who are.
If you can’t wait ’til then, check out this trailer to see what I am talking about:

Sometimes I can't believe the things that people will ban together to "protest". I just ignore those shows. Their view of reality is somewhat strange.

I'm a Jersey Girl now living in New England…love New Jersey!
I went to school with and lived in the same town with one of the Housewives of NJ. That show is awful!

And I saw a clip of it on the news. UGH.
And your right, the show is real people who signed up for it. It is a really poor reflection of so many other people. I live in Atlanta where the Real Housewives who dont live in Atlanta are embarrassing.
Throw that can of AquaNet…bc I dont see it changing.

I watched the "real housewives of NYC for a season and laughed to think that anyone could be that shallow. I didn't for a minute think it was typical of all New Yorkers. It was just entertainment.
