After my rant about my kids last week, I got some great advice, & loads of reassurance, from my readers {thank you!}
I’ve realized that being a CEO is all about management. It’s my duty to manage our household so that it runs to optimal performance levels. I decided to take some of the advice I received, and revamp the way certain things are done around here! Over the next few weeks, I plan to highlight some of our household changes so that hopefully you, too, can use them with your own family.
Today’s task: Kid of the Day.
Every single morning, Miss Mac wakes up and stumbles into my room saying, “Who picks tonight?” Every. Single. Morning. She wants to know who picks the movie to watch before bed that night. At 7 am, she is already trying to beat her brother to the punch of choosing the movie they’ll watch twelve hours later.
This sort of behavior goes on throughout the day.
When it’s bathtime {they still bathe together although that’s gonna stop real soon}, they ask me who sits in the front {ie: the closest to the faucet of warmness!}.
When baths are finished, they want to know who gets out first.
When it’s lunchtime, they ask who gets to choose a show to watch {I let them have a picnic in front of the TV at lunchtime, just don’t tell that to DaddyMac!}
When it’s time to get into the minivan, despite the fact that it does, in fact, have two doors, they insist on climbing in through the same door, which leads them to asking who get to climb in first.
Are you seeing a pattern here?
The problem is, I can’t always remember who does what first! Don’t you think I’ve got enough on my mind?
So, this is what I came up with:

Each night, I switch that little yellow star to the other kid, so that when they wake up in the morning, they can see for themselves who gets to do EVERYTHING first that day, and so on. It’s working like a charm!
Next task: Snack time. Please feel free to share with me some of your best tips to get your kids to eat healthy snacks. I’ll include a few of my favorites in my next post about managing our kids!
