Lessons from the Tiki Bar

by The Shore Mom on June 15, 2010

Top 10 lessons learned from my “Girls Day” at the Tiki Bar:

(10)  30 is old when you are at the Tiki Bar.  30 with kids and a husband is ancient.  But being “old” and people-watching at the Tiki Bar is totally awesome!

(9)    There is nothing attractive about two men pretending to be gay, especially when their actions make it certain that they are gay.  Sure, we could not peel our eyes away from the train-wreck that was two unattractive men groping each other and attempting to seductively pose for pictures together, but I doubt that was the attention they were trying to get.

(8)  It’s important to be conscious of keeping your personal belongings inside your bathing suit, and by personal belongings, I do mean your hasn’t-been-shaved-since-the-70’s hoo-hoo.

(7)   There is no doubt in my mind that MTV’s  “Jersey Shore” accurately portrays the Jersey Shore.  Before you “Jersey Girls” get your panties in a bunch, hear me out.  Clearly, by “Shore” they are referring to Point Pleasant and Seaside Heights beaches…which, think about it, where do us locals go daily?  Not there!  There was more fake-tanned, fake-muscled fist-pumping wanna-be’s and orange Italian Princesses with fake boobs, hoop earring, high heels and higher hair than any hour of Snookie and The Situation could provide us with!

(6)  Drinking at noon is an activity I should definitely engage in more often.  My entire day slowed down & I was far more relaxed.

(5)  Most American women between the ages of 20-30 don’t own a mirror.  Or they own fun-house type mirrors that erase all cellulite and stretch marks, take 10-20 pounds off their frame, and make wearing bikinis with high heels look absolutely adorable.

(4)  I have a pretty decent body & will go out on a limb and declare that my friends and I were certainly in the top 25% of “hotties” on the beach.  And the fact that we were likely the only ones there who pushed kids out our vajajays and still looked good is even more reason for us to flaunt it {appropriately, that is.  After all, we own mirrors!}

(3)  I LOVE my husband.  Even if he pisses me off at times, or we have our moments, I could not be happier to me married to such a man.  I can honestly say that there was only one guy on that beach worth checking out, and even he was a stretch because us girls were just so desperate to find at least one piece of eye candy.  Truth be told, I’d check out DaddyMac any day over him!

(2)  A “Girls Day” does wonders for your sanity.  I was happy to go home to my family, and felt calmer and more relaxed even while managing bath and bedtime.  The day away rejuvinated my spirits and gave me a much-needed break.  This is something us girls have vowed to do twice again this summer.

(1)  I have the BEST friends.  I am so glad that it took losing a few along the way to get to the ones that I have today.

This is so funny! OMG! Haha :) And sadly, I know what you mean about the friends part. It’s hard, it sucks, but it’s reality. And thankfully there are amazing and wonderful friends that stick by you.

Glad you had fun!! It’s always so refreshing to take a break :)

Excellent. Sounds like an absolutely wonderful time!

I wish I had a mirror like that, but I just look at myself in my completely normal mirror, sigh, and use a very large wrap at the pool.

Every single one of those thoughts goes through my head when I go to the beach… except the pushing kids out of the vajayjay part.

Sounds like a blast! Getting day drunk is awesome. Maybe I should get started? And, yes, I agree, in my 30′s with hub and toddler makes me feel old at a bar too. I also feel older now that I wear a swim suit with a skirt attached, but hey, I don’t need to worry too much about keeping up the hoo-hoo!

Back when I was the SITS featured blogger, I bookmarked a few blogs to check out later. It’s been over a month, but here I am. You have a new follower. :)

You guys are adorable!!! I think that cocktails at noon is an absolute on the beach…think about it as this question…drinking during the day…problem? Or solution?

Looks like you had so much fun.

Now, the good news about going to places where women don’t seem to own mirrors is that they make those that do look So. much. better. :)
