Mom Confession:: I don’t play with my kids enough.

Job Description {of the day}: Playmate

I’m not their playmate.  I’m their parent.

Between the dishes, and the laundry, and the meal planning, and the carpooling {and, let’s not lie…Facebook!}…play time with Mommy is limited.

DaddyMac had a late swim meet to end his season on the other night, & Buckaroo didn’t want to go to bed and “leave me alone.”  I love how he feels the innate need to be the man of the house when DaddyMac is not home!  Thanks to my glass of Arbormist, I was feeling relaxed and had a “who cares” attitude, so I welcomed him staying up past his bedtime and keeping me company.

He talked my ear off.  We talked about school.  And bike riding.  And the groundhog seeing his shadow.  He told me how he loves when I make pancakes for him for breakfast.  He told me that when I yell at him, he thinks I don’t love him {which of course shattered my heart into a million pieces}.

After our chat, he asked if I wanted to play cards with him.

We played Go Fish!
and War!
and Old Maid!

I forgot how much I love playing cards.  He is at the age where we can actually play a game–for real.  And it was great fun watching him figure out the games tactics–even pushing his Old Maid card up high so that it would stand out to be plucked by me {don’t you remember trying to fool your parents like that!?}

He requested a “midnight snack” {at 9:3opm!}, and he promised not to tell his sister about our special party night.

But my little man-of-the-house was doomed to crash at some point….

Love it! Sometimes a late bedtime is just what the mommy ordered.
